Giving a Brookwood strap as a gift
I am flattered that you when you think of giving the musician in your life a gift that you would consider that gift to be a Brookwood strap. It's important to me that they will be as thrilled with the strap as they are with the fact that you wanted to give them a special gift. That's why getting them involved in the ordering process is very important.
There are a number of specifics I will need in order to make a strap that will suit the player the way a strap that is custom made for them should. Beside the obvious choices of the style of strap and the colors of the strap, lining, and stitching, I will also need to know the make and model instrument, the exact length that fits the player, and the type of attachment hardware that is on the instrument(s). Even my adjustable straps have a minimal number of adjustment holes and are designed to fit the player at their preferred length when set at the middle of 5 holes, spaced 1" apart. Just like if you were shopping for a belt, you would select one that fit in the middle of the adjustment range so that it appears balanced and symmetrical. To determine length take a strap you are comfortable with, lay it out flat, and measure the distance between the mounting holes you are using.
If you wanted to make it a surprise it's a much better idea to let the person know of your intended gift by including my website address in a greeting card, or maybe print out a photo of something shown on my website you think they might like to give them an idea. Let them know you were in contact with me and that I am expecting their call. Then I will do my best to make a strap they will enjoy for a very long time ~
